Football season is still a couple months away, and I want to perfect my capturing and editing before the season starts.
I live in the US, and have a Leadtech Winfast 2000 XP Deluxe. I have the WinfastPVR software that came with it. I have DirectTV wired up and can capture video just fine.
I made the mistake of capturing a game in MPEG-2 @ 640 X whatever, and then can't get TMPGEnc, or anything else, to load it. So, I'm having trouble finding something that will let me cut out the commercials. So then I remembered this site and have been reading up a bit.
I have read some of the faq's and guides and figured out that I should capture the game in Uncompressed AVI, and then will be able to edit it with any number of programs. I have captured some video in this format and it seems to have retained the original quality.
Once the game is edited, I can then choose to compress it to XVID or DIVX if needed, but with the way harddrives are getting larger and cheaper, I might not have to worry about that.
It seems the preferred capture method is VirtualDub. What is better about that then the PVR software, or does it really matter?
And finally, did I miss anything? The NFL Network replays old games, so I'll have a few chances to practice and get it right.
