LG 4082b DVD-Writer slow write

I am unable to achieve a write speed greater than 1x. Burning 4 Gig takes 40 minutes to complete. Using Nero info tool, the LG drive (secondary channel, slave to a CD-RW drive) DMA was off. I have enabled all channels transfer mode to "DMA if available". The only issue I have was the "current transfer mode" for device 1 was PIO and couldn't get it to change eventhough the transfermode was set to DMA. Would a firmware upgrade for the LG drive resolve this? Any suggestions or Help would be appreciated.

Operating system: Windows XP
motherboard: asus A7N8X Deluxe
Media: Verbatim 8x and TDK 4x

Delete your IDE controller from within Device Manager and reboot.

Thanks for the tip Lightnining Uk! Your advice worked and also by changing the master\slave settings (DVD-Writer as master and the CD-RW as slave).
