View Full Version : Nero 6 Ultra DVDs Stuck after FirstPlay

I just upgraded my Pioneer A03 to an A07D. Prassi PrimoDVD won't recognize the drive, so I tried using Sonic RecordNow! which was a pain in the butt to set up and use, but resulted in a playable DVD.

Having found that I could not save the job for later use, I decided to install Nero 6 Ultra.

Unfortunately, Nero's DVD burning instructions are left blank. All they say is "you can't go wrong" and leave the rest blank.
I tried making a DVD using the same image files I have been using in Prassi and then today in RecordNow!, but it gave me an error that the files were not a 'compilation'. It let me drag and drop them anyway and having no other options for burning, I went and burned the disc. No errors. Disc looked okay when I viewed the file structure in Explorer.

However, in my Pioneer DV343 player, all I got was the firstplay item--the logo. After that, the Title icon on the front panel flashed and no menu was displayed.

I have heard of people burning successful DVDs with Nero, but evidently it's no where near as simple as Prassi, where I just select a data DVD and drag the AUDIO and VIDEO _TS folders to the window and burn. Doing that in Nero resulted in a useless disc.

Has anyone figured out how to have Nero burn the audio and video_ts folders to a DVD-R and result in a proper DVD?

I don't want to have to use RecordNow! ever again. Setting up the job was a pain and I have to set up a new job every time I want to make another copy--it won't save the jobs.

Use Imgtool Classic plus dvddecrypter to make an iso image and then burn it. Do use a RW for your first try.

I have to admit this is the first time I heard of "Nero Ultra" ... no idea how it differs from plain Nero 6.x

Maybe I didn't make clear what I was doing. I'm not ripping a DVD. I'm burning DVDs from an image that I made with an authoring program.

I've been burning images since 9/2001 with Prassi PrimoDVD. However, my new Pioneer A07 is invisible to Prassi, so I have to scramble to find another burner program that can write DVDs from my audio and video_ts folders that I created from Scenarist projects.

I think I may have found the problem however.. I retraced my steps and it seems that I may have chosed DVD ISO instead of DVD VIDEO as the type of disc. I'm burning a new project. This time no complaint from Nero about the wrong file type for the compilation. Will see what kind of DVD it makes.

Hehe.. yes you need to use the DVD VIDEO template as it also validates the structure of the files and even reallocates the sectors if needed (aka get vts sectors).

I think DVD video uses UDF/ISO or UDF exclusively so you cant just burn an ISO disc and expect it to work.

Yup. Sure enough, this disc plays fine. Just stupid operator error combined with being unfamiliar with a new burner program. Disc burned in 15:01. Plays fine in my Pioneer DV343 player. Just have to pay close attention. At least I could save that job as a template for others.
