macrovision

As a newbie to this forum, I'd like to know if satellite broadcasts of latest movies etc carry any kind of macrovision or other type of protection.

There's no macrovision like protection on dvb. You can record as long as you have the right to watch the channel (most of the channels are encrypted and you need a CAM and an official card from you're cable/sat provider)
