I have to buy some 8x media for a project I'm doing, and I'm not sure what to get. Up until now I've gone for Varbatim disks, but now I see a chance to possibly save some money.

I can get some RITEK G05's for$.73 each, or I can get Verbatims for around $1.30 each. I can save aa bunch of money with the riteks, but varbatim disks will defineatly last a while. I guess it comes down to which media will last longer.

I have a NEC 2500A if that's any matter.

edit:
I just went for the verbatims. I found them real cheap. $1.10 each.

If you want to get depressed, use a program like DVD Decrypter that tells you the manufacturer of your media. Don't be surprised if your "Verbatims" are really repackaged Ritek G05s.

I've been using Riteks for over a year now...so does Fuji, Imation and Memorex in addition to Verbatim.

Personally I'd scrap the 8x burning part ... the burn quality is just not consistent enough yet. I'd wait for firmware improvements ...

I have never ever seen Verbatims that are Ritek branded. If they are available they are certainly not genuine as Verbs will always be either MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical Company) or the slightly inferior CMC which I think are produced by Verbatims European sister company. Mitsubishi would never stoop so low :p

I've recently bought spindle printable 4X DVD-R Verbatims as well as jewel case full-face printables and they're both MCC. The "anti-scratch surface" spindled might be CMC, but I've never heard of verbatim using ritek.. sounds like a fake job.

The last disk of my spindle of Verbatims reads "MCC 01RG20"
I bought some FujiFilms yesterday from Best Buy and they read "RITEKG03"

edit:
These riteks suck royally. They will only burn at 2.4x. I'm returning them tomorrow.

Ritek G03 is 2x max. - no reason to be disappointed.

I know that, but that's just too slow.

They don't say they will be G03's on the packaging or any speed whatsoever. The last spindle of these I bought burned at 4x, so I assumed these would to. I think they were labeled 4x at Best Buy too.

I bought some more verbatims and they're MCC. I don't think Verbatim would use anything else seeing as how they are a subsitiary of Mitsubishi Chemical.
