Hi
This question is not 100% about encoding, but then again it is!
It goes something like this:
I am thinking about building myself a htpc and for that I need a card for recording from my tv. Up untill now I have looked at Hauppages WinTV-PVR-250. To my luck a found a page where someone had uploaded samples of the different qualities which are available to record in. The page can be seen here: http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/pvr_mpg.html
All the clips, execpt vcd, playback with "shadows", or not shadows (it's very hard to explain) it's more like the previous frame is not finished being drawn before the next frame is displayed, and causing some form of trailing shadow. I tried to get some friends to playback the same clips and they saw the same. I think I better mention that I playback the clips using PowerDVD (but also tried WinDVD, same result) and have no mpeg-card in my box.
The "funny" thing here, and also the reason why this has to do with encoding, is that if I convert a clip into XviD using AutoGK then there are no shadows at all, and the pictures is much better?!
Can anyone explain to me why this happens?
