View Full Version : Really bizarre problem burning with dvd decryptor

I don't know what the heck is going on.
I ripped a dvd with dvd decryptor. First, it was ripping real slow like something it would drop to below 1x...and rip at .5 x
I let it go...
I got an iso image which i mounted, and it appeared fine (played it in powerdvd).

So I went to burn it to a Ritek G05.

I noticed the buffer going nuts...it jumps from 80% down to 40%, and the write speed kept varying from 3x to 2x...it should be burning at a steady 4x.

I am now trying to burn it from Nero 6.3 directly, and I noticed it claims the image is a cd-rom mod 1, iso 9660 !! I don't remember it saying that before while burning.
anyway i noticed the damn buffer is still varying wildly...but nero doesn't tell me the actual write speed.
I wonder if it means my hard drive is going bad, or the dvd burner...hard to tell at this point.
Its done this with two different ritek g04's

Ironically...the resulting dvd-r seemed to burn fine.

here's a scan of it....weird!

Well, I decided to test my hard drive speed. and I think I found the problem.
One of my hard drives (the one I use for dvd stuff and has all my utilities) is stuck in PIO mode.
That sounds pretty bad to me...I've seen it happen to my dvd-rom drive before when I encountered lots of disk errors..but on a hard drive?? that's scary!
Check out this pathetic speed graph

check the hardware software forum, they talk about reseting your hardrive to dma.

The same thing happened to me, and I got a lesson in PIO performance shortcomings. The fix was to just go into Device Manager, delete the hard drive channel, and reboot. Win2k spotted the drives and gave them UDMA.
