I've been buring DVD-Rs for quite some time now. Believe it or not I found the Comp USA disks to work great and I've gotten them on sale for less than 50 cents apiece.

Until I recently bought a DVD printer - which is really cool. You know that putting labels on DVD can and does cause playback problems so until now I've simply marked my disks with a sharpee.

So now, with the printer, however, I had to buy printable DVDs. The only brand CompUsa offers is Memorex. Well, the results are pretty bad with Memorex. Looks like the manufacturer is "Prodiscs03" when I run DVD info on the disk. Now I've purchased 100 disks so I'm a little frustrated. My disks skip and pixelate (not badly but any is too much for me).

I hate to trust my movies to disks that are unreliable.

Any similiar experience out there? Any advice?

You didn't mention what burner you got. Does it handle DVD+R ??
I bought some Memorex DVD+R disks from best buy, and they were RICOHJPN01's which are great! I've been really impressed with their quality. If they make the printable ones in DVD+R maybe they'll also be the ricoh's...

yes, I'm running a Sony DRU which writes both + and - formats. I tried the + but one of my two home decks wouldn't play it and I had always had sucess running DVD -R on both.

What's interesting is that the DVDs DO play on both - and really only pixelate and/or pause once in a while. Just never happened with the Comp USa disks, which are by the way Princo - which I see everyone says is the porrest of brands.

Which leaves me wondering - 1) how can I buy the best DVD recordable/printable quality if it seems that the true OEM is often a crap shoot. For example, Memorex may be one OEM or another. 2) how much is the DVD and how much is it the player. Is there a way that I can produce the same consistency and reliability as the pre-recorded DVDs?

I find it to be cheaper and better to use the casio cd label printer. It prints on media that has NO printable label on it's surface.
