I have a PAL DVD with interlaced video, I saw a lot of times the ghost effect because deinterlacing and I would like to make a correct rip.
I will see the rip on TV, then the most correct should be to obtain a final DivX/Xvid that is still interlaced, true?
Someone can give me some clues of how to do it? Every rip guide I saw says to deinterlace any interlaced DVD.

Hi-

Probably not.

Forgive me if I ask a basic question, but it's often hard to judge a poster's experience and knowledge. How do you know it's interlaced? Have you tried to put on Telecide by itself to see if it makes it progressive again?

You can encode interlaced material in XviD, keeping it interlaced. Just check Interlaced Encoding in the Profile@Level->More screen. But my guess is that you won't like the results.

And if you don't like the ghosting/blending kind of a deinterlacer, then maybe try an interpolating deinterlacer, such as KernelDeint. Or if your resolution is low enough, try deinterlacing with SeparateFields().SelectEven().

It you watch the movie on TV it doesn't necessairly means that you need both fields. That depends on the configuration and possibilities of your GFX card.

However I mostly keep the captured movies as interlaced, most codecs will allow you that, just check in their control panel. Also some directshow filters allows you to playback interlaced video files on your monitor/TVout properly - switching the playback to 50fps mode.

It is your own decision wether to deinterlace or to keep the video files interlaced, but you should also note that the interlaced files will need higher datarate for the same quality.
