Newbie - Playing subtitles

This is probably a really silly question but I haven't been able to find an explicit answer yet. My question is what is the best program for viewing fan subtitles (like srt etc) on windows media player? I tried searching the site and all I could find were programs for extracting/re-authoring subs rather than something that just plays them back.

Apologies in advance if I'm asking a really daft quesion.

I think vobsub is very best sub display software.

vobsub (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software.htm) is the one and only indeed :)
you'll need it configured on "always load" in settings, and give the sub file the very same name and location as the movie so it autoloads
Or something like BSplayer can display most subs without any outside help, you just need to load them manually.
