View Full Version : isn't NTSC's frame 29.97 ?

when i opened a original DVD file by ifoedit,and clicked the VTS_PGC_,and 5 rows lower i saw the playback time(hh:mm:ss.frame),and it value is 01:46:32.26 /30 fps?
but the movie is from USA,the NTSC mode?!:confused: :confused: :confused:

I thind fps=30 is 29.97 round,they are same.

i think it's not the same,assume a DVD movie is 2 hours long(=7200 seconds) and the NTSC standard frame is 29.97,then if 29.97 fps round off 30 fps,and in 7000th second,there is 7000*0.03= 210s different!the subtitle is out of sync with the sounds at all.do you think so?

That's why there are two timecode formats for NTSC: drop frame and non-drop frame. NTSC video is always 29.97fps, but sometimes it's convenient to assume that it's 30fps. Same applies to the subtitles: if you try to back up an NTCS movie and the subs go out of sync, search for the words "drop frame".
