Hi all,

In australia we have Pay TV such as austar and Foxtel.

I have the set top decoder for austar and was wondering if I could watch austar through my tv capture card with out the set top decoder (so every one in the house can still watch it without me unpluging it from the TV)

I have heard of software decoders that allow you to do this but no one seem to know what they are or if it is in fact possible.

You'd need a DVB-s card with a IRD2 capable CAM (tip: avoid VisionPlus DVB-s cards if you really want to try this) - or - feed the analogue out of the STB into an analogue PC capture card, compress and broadcast on the lan (I doubt this is what you had in mind). The DVB-s card would want to have good software too. If you have a 'new digital' Foxtel service, forget it, there are no CAMs to decode it.
