Hi & welcome to the board,

there should have been some forced English subs on the DVD for just that purpose.
Now, I have no experience with forced subs plus you don't mention what your target format is, but I suggest you have a look at the DVD again and check for the presence of a forced subtitles.

I thought there were forced subtitles but they arent any. When using the dvd player the subtitles appear in the black boarder at the bottom but when previewing the vobs in dvd2avi they arent there.

Target format is PAL.

I honestly have no experience with this (all my foreign language movies are _all foreign_ language :)).

Try http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20023&highlight=red+october+forced - it seems Areku had a problem similar to yours. In particular, follow doom9's advice in that thread ...

How many subtitle streams are there for English? You don't say anything about the software you are using to achieve your goal, do you use subrip? Also, with "target format" I meant to ask - do you want to create a dvd, svcd, avi? Are you sure dvd2avi displays forced subs (I doubt it).

Maybe some other forum members can offer more help, my experience with forced subs is next to none. Good luck,

Steve

I was using DVD2AVI to check that the subtitles werent on the bottom and that i cropped them off. Im using the GKnot rippack to encode my films. Sorry about the lack of information provided
