While I have been around this scene for quite a while now, I remember the days of manually operating CCE to get a Q vaule that would actually fit on a disk and not look like a poop sickle. While I understand (relativly) the concept of all of these settings, I feel that I need to ask the experts what there thoughts are on the proper method for filling in the blanks on these settings using DVDRB?

Maybe discussing this is taboo, but recently I have been using doitfast4u combined with Scenarist to backup my films. In looking and reading extensivly about rebuilder something occured to me, that I was hoping someone could explain. Doitfast4u seems to be able to calculate all of the above settings automatically. Now I do realize that it requires you to select a bitrate to be used for extras as well as the number of passes that you would like for both the main and the extras, but with this information it is able to generate the bias value as well as the QP. How does it do this?

While I understand that each film is different and many factors are contributing to the optimum quality compression (without taking a decade to do it), I was hoping that perhaps we could put our heads togather and come up with a proceedure that could be used to determine a good baseline for these settings. It seems to me that one of jdobbs's main goals is to put togather something that is easy to use (heh much easier said than done). Seems like at this point it would be of great benifit for a lot of folks if we could come up with a way to determine these settings based on the source?

Im the last guy that wants to be running 4 passes when I could be running 2 and it would be impossible to tell the difference. And I almost get sick if I think about running an encode only to find out that my video stream it a poop sickle from improper Q or bias settings.

Jdobbs, again great work. I remember being around when you were developing IFOUpdate, your knowledge in this arena never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for the great tool.
