Ive seen a lot of different custom matrices for Xvid and i would like to try to make my own, are any tools for making/comparing them? Also any advice would be welcome, thank you.

Ligh's Custom Quantization Matrix Editor is an excellent tool for creating your own matrices, you can learn more in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73666&highlight=matrix+editor).

But beware: creating your own matrices really requires that you know a lot about how a quantization matrix works. If not you are better off with using some of the more established matrices included with the editor (I especially recommend the HVS good-better-best and Dideés matrices) - a quick search in the forums should help you learn which matrices are designed for high bitrates, and which are designed for low bitrates :)

But beware, this is a very time consuming subject... ;)

thank you very much for your reply:D

yes i noticed this problem when i tried some more test clips with it
im currently trying some other settings. i also feel i should mention that my metrices are designed for 1cd rips so quality wont be great.

metrix01:

8,10,15,19,25,31,37,44
9,12,16,21,27,33,39,46
12,15,19,24,30,36,42,49
15,18,22,27,33,39,45,52
19,22,26,31,37,43,49,56
23,26,30,35,41,47,53,60
27,30,34,39,45,51,57,64
32,35,39,44,49,55,62,69

11,12,15,21,29,32,37,44
12,13,21,29,32,37,44,53
15,21,29,32,37,44,53,60
21,25,32,35,35,53,60,75
25,32,35,35,50,60,75,85
32,35,35,50,60,75,85,100
35,32,40,60,70,85,100,136
32,40,60,70,85,100,136,164

hmm heres a better matrix, but its too similar to hsv:

8,15,15,16,17,18,21,24
15,15,16,16,17,19,22,25
15,16,17,18,20,22,25,29

18,19,22,27,34,43,53,64
21,22,25,31,40,52,68,85
24,25,29,36,46,63,85,110

8,15,15,16,17,18,21,24
15,15,16,16,17,19,22,25

By a small HD research I found this one...

8 12 14 16 18 20 26 28
12 14 17 20 24 28 32 32
14 17 22 26 32 36 38 38
16 20 26 34 40 42 42 44
18 24 32 40 46 48 48 48
20 28 36 42 48 54 56 56
26 32 38 42 48 56 62 64
28 32 38 44 48 56 64 72

16 18 20 24 30 36 44 52
18 24 28 36 48 50 58 62
20 28 40 48 58 64 68 72
24 36 48 64 72 76 84 82
30 42 58 72 88 92 94 92
36 50 64 76 92 98 98 112
44 58 68 84 94 98 124 128
52 62 72 82 92 112 128 132

Was some sort of HVS attempt and looks very similar to your 1st one !!!

Results where good @ lower bitrates, but for my purpose not really useable...
