Is it possible to compress (make smaller) the vob file that is ripped using either the basic ripper which is included with dvd2svcd or using vstrip?

You mean for it to use less space on disk while you encode, right?

Well, VOBs are very compressed already. However, some users have reported that if they use a compressed drive or folder to store them, then sometimes they compress somewhat further.

I have never noticed such behaviour, though, but maybe some VOBs are more compressible than others.

Anyway, by using this technique you will slow your encode in some way, since VOBs will have to be decompressed by the O.S. before feeding them to the encoder. (Although this is transparent to DVD2SVCD.)

I guess that is what I want to do. I like the speed of ripping a dvd but to convert to say, an mpeg2 it takes about 1/2 hour for a 4 minute song compaired to what, about 3 minutes to rip into a vob file. The only thing I don't like is the file size. For a 4 minute music video a mpeg2 is about 79,890 kb's and the vob file is 264,222 kb's. That is a huge file so I thought it would be better if I could change some paramater (s) to reduce the file.
