...on my standalone player occurs after all rips to HD then using any/all dvdshrink, dvdfab, clonedvd to shrink and burn to dvd-r. i've used crappy disks, expensive disks, expensive crappy disks, and everything in between. tried shrinking the size of the disk to 4gig to minimize (or maybe that should be maximize?!?) the edges. all disks work perfectly on my pc. BUT if i burn to dvd+rw, they all work fine on the standalone. could it be my 3 year-old dvd player is crapping out on me or what? haven't had a chance to test any of the disks on a newer player yet, but i don't wanna find out that the disks won't work on any standalone - you'll hear the screams round the world...

well it would have to be either your burner not doing -r well or your burning software not doing -r well or the fact that your dvd standalone is plain old. :)
example of the last 2 making a difference for you. a mate of mine has a real old panasonic dvd player. he bought a dvd burner (pioneer 106d so burnd -r perfectly fine). he made some dvdshrink iso outputs and also some dvddecrypter isos(dvd5). he burnt them with nero. result is his new cheap dvd player plays all fine. the panasonic though only works if they are burnt on specific branded media. if not then they would skip and occasionally fail to even load. however he then burnt the exact same isos to the same mix of media using dvddecrypter and guess what. yep they all worked 100% fine on the panasonic. :)
that is all true. so something for you to try yourself.
