View Full Version : 500MB Surround track ?

Hi,

I have read previous posts, but I can not figure this out...

I want to play my DVD's from a HTPC, and I would like each movie to take up ~2GB, with a surround track of roughly 500MB.

How do I do that?

I have a Audiotrak Prodigy 192, and would like to us WMP9 (I think?)

Sorry for any redundancy, Thank you,
Walther

(I know how to encode the movie to XVID using FlaskMPEG)

That simple?

I tried that once, but I got two seperate files. Is there a simple way to combine them so that I can use WMP9?

Thank you for the quick reply,
walther

first of all i thinnk i should say one thing:
there many better players out there
but it's a matter of taste

for your question:
i need to know what software you use (programms, codecs, ...)
and at what step you got2 files
then i'm sure i or someone else here can help you

The reason I choose WindowsMediaPlayer9, is that it seems to work fine with myHTPC. I like the transparent interface, that I _never_ see the player. (If you know another player that works with myHTPC please let me know)

I use DVDDecrypter, and then FlaskMPEG to XVID.

I feel this must have been asked a thousand times, but I can not find the instructions anywhere for optimal format for HTPC playback from HD with surround? (filesize ~2GB).

Thank you for your time,
walther

you can always use a dvd authoring package to put together a dvd with just the movie...most will let you add in a video only stream then attach the audio stream you want to it. so if the audio you already have as ac3 it won't need recompression, you just recompress the video there to the size you want and "build" the dvd (this happens on the hard drive, no need to burn a disc). then you browse to the folder and grab just the .vob file that is the recombined video & audio. depending on your codecs etc wmp9 should play the .vob for you.

also have a look at "media player classic" as an alternative player. its simple and easy and much more user friendly. plus with quicktime alternative and real alternative installed you will be able to play QT & RM vids without needing to re-encode. getting wmp9 to play QT & RM can be done but its a major pain in the butt, it doesnt much like doing it.

Excellent thank you, just a few extra questions, if anyone has a spare moment...

Is there a simple free/opensource program for simple joining of XVID and AC3 stream.

What about sync, if you just join the files?

Where does the AC3 decoding take place? In the XVID player, OS or on the soundcard (Prodigy 192).

Thank you,
Walther

(I will read a few more posts now that you all have gotten me started)

if you wanna join the xvid and ac3 to an avi-file use avimux
although i personalyl prefer matroska to avi

about sync, in the ac3 files name there should be a "delay" value, you have to enter that in the muxing tool (mux = multiplex = join audio and video)

fledelius,

The easiest and simplest way to join yours Xvid with AC3 + another audio tracks is to use VirtualDubMod program.
You can add as many as you want additional audio streams and everyone can have its own delay settings and more...

If you want to join Ac3 to DVD please follow this thread

(sorry for a little temperature rise there, but lunnar and me or me and lunnar, we were boiling water for the latter nice coffe)

vdubmod better for muxing avis than avimux
i don't think so
