Everytime I backup DVD, I test it with PowerDVD or IFOEDIT before I burn it.
But it already happend 3-4 times that the backup plays perfectly with PowerDVD and IFOEDIT, but doesn't play at all/well in my DVDplayer (KISS).
I found the problem evrytime(forget to "get vts sector", removed something in the menu that shouldn't be removed, etc..) and I was able to fix it.
So I would like to know if a PC-player, which doesn't play DVD if there is ANY litlle error, exists ?
So I don't waste a DVD-R, nor 16 minutes to burn a DVD+RW to verifiy that the disc play REALLY correctly.

The biggest problem with software DVD Players is, that they are very forgiving on authoring errors and often don't take the dvd specs very seriously.
Still the best way to verify a DVD is to first burn in on an RW Media and test it on some standalones.
There exists a software which would accuartly check your dvd structure. It's called "DVD Informer" from Daikin. But as far as I know it isn't sold anymore. And Sonic didn't continue the development as they did on Scenarist.

I don't think there is a software player that will fail if VTS sectors are wrong. In fact, I don't think there can be (well, within reason anyway).
If I understand correctly, VTS sectors tell the OS in the player where each title set starts. If the VTS sectors are incorrect, the player either can't find the title sets, or starts reading the VTS at the wrong position and gets hopelessly confused.
The file system in the Windows OS works different. It knows intrinsically where the start of each file is, so any software player that uses OS file system calls (i.e. all of them) will basically ignore VTS sectors.
If you don't want to waste time burning to an RW, I think your best bet is to get in the habit of *always* getting VTS sectors before burning. AFAIK it can never hurt - if the sectors were correct to start with, get VTS sectors does nothing.

get VTS sector was just an example of errors that Software player doesn't see. With IFOedit you can check if it's ok in 1sec. Problems like "bad re-encoded/re-created menus" are impossible to check with PowerDVD (except if it is a big problem).
But thanks for the explaination. I will try to find/test "DVD Informer". And if the only way to check a DVD correctly is to test it in a Standalone, it's not really a problem.
Thanks.

Seems that I've been mistaken. Sonic still sells DVD Informer. But I can't find any information about it in the products section...
