the last three builds have not been able to play mpeg4 streams(divx/xvid), build 2135, 2138 & now 2142

is microsoft trying to tell us something?

just thought this was rather interesting, since it seems like a deliberate bug ;)

edit: feel free to move me wherever, I didn't see a general mpeg4 posting section :)

That's odd!

I've only tried short (120sec) clips but on the systems where I've installed SP2 RC1, they've worked OK for me - even in WMP9.

just tried a nero digital, it plays fine in the mp4 container, if I export the video it does not play tho

also, yes, rc1 works just fine, these are pre-rc2 builds

I think it worked fine up until the 2135 build, I know it worked fine for sure wuith the public rc1 2096 build

edit: ok, it seems that nero showtime is playing them just fine, any container, xvid/divx/nero

winamp, wmp 9 and 10, mpc, vdubmod, zoomplayer pro and even gspot will not open the files, and if you thumbnail view them, explorer crashes

edit part 2: if you uninstall the divx codec/decoder, xvid plays them just fine, so it is an issue with divx networks :)

What exactly do you mean by 'export' the video?

open the mp4 in mp4ui and export video as avi

I did a second edit up above, looks like it is the divx decoder, maybe this needs moved to the divx forum :)

i use build 2126 no problems but this sounds spooky if it realy stops working with newer builds, you mean mpeg4 in avi without a signed player does not work anymore ? oh mised your last post add then it's fine man that would be horror if even filters had to be signed now :P

I did a second edit up above, looks like it is the divx decoder, maybe this needs moved to the divx forum :) I was afraid of that. MP4UI is not the best tool for doing this as it renders the stream unstable.

Also, regardless of the streams source (in your case Nero Mpeg4) MP4UI will display the 4CC as being DivX4. And changing the 4CC to Nero's 'NDIG' 4CC code will not help either.

This probably explains why your 'exports' don't work.

if it really doesnt work anymore with higher builds, maybe m$ updated their avi splitter in a way mpeg-4 placed in it will not be supported anymore?

No don't think so they couldn't justify that step but the signed filters only could be justified as another security measurement which would be absolutely bad for FREE/OSS codecs :(

Hmm, hopefully the final SP2 release will be OK (remember all those annoying problems with SP1).

By the way I started a thread about SP2 here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76922).
