View Full Version : DivX 5.11 playback mashed up big time

Hi,

I used to have XviD installed which played back Xvid, and DivX 5.11 installed which played back all types of DivX just fine.

Then one day I found a Div3 movie which played back all smeared. I decided to install ffdshow and use that to play back Div3 files. And all was well in the world.

But now whenever I play back anything that uses the DivX 5.11 codec, the screen looks like this...

<screen grab was blank, so verbal description follows>
the screen is split horizontally, with the lower half being green.
the upper half is split again - but this time vertically - with a purpley green image of the movie in each half.
<end of screen grab description>

now here's the weird bit. if I pause the movie, move to another window, then move back to the movie, it looks absolutely fine! but as soon as I start playing it again it goes all funny :-(

This occurs in both Windows Media Player and Windows Media Player Classic. It looks absolutely fine in VirtualDub, though.

An example file (as reported by GSpot) is this...

4CC: DX50/divx
Name: DivX 5.0
4 Compatible Codecs Installed: ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder, DivX Decoder Filter, DivX Decoder Filter, XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder
Rendering: AVI Splitter --> DivX Decoder Filter --> [VFW: XviD MPEG-4 Codec] --> Video Renderer

I've uninstalled ffdshow (no change), reinstalled ffdshow and set it to decode divx (which it does, but still looks the same), uninstalled XviD (no change).

The only thing that fixes it is to uninstall DivX. Which I really don't want to do, as I can't get eDwatch to work without DivX 5.11 being installed :-(

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you know of any solutions?

I'm sure I saw a little app somewhere on this forum that kind of "cleans up" any uninstalled codecs - can anyone point me to it? I'm hoping that might help?

Thanks!

well if this is the only reason, i fear you're in violation of rule 6... thread closed!
