anyone noticed that the picture in a standalone seems darker than it should be? my blacks are really black and the contrast is heavy. i just backed up my start wars prequels and it totally seems off... maybe it has to do with converting away from RGB???

all aside, the program works wonders, but this is a bother. any ideas... thanks!

Nope, I personally compared the colour scale of output frames and input frames in photoshop and there is max 1-2% difference in brightness in EITHER direction on a per-pixel level, and that is due to the pixels shifting from encoding. The black bars and flat areas of the same shade are exactly the same value.

What encoder did you use? My tests were with CCE, and of course Rejig cant do such changes at all. Dont know about Quenc.

Thats not to say there cant be something wrong with your avisynth setup etc that could cause changes in the colour scale.

all JVC products... 27" & XV-S60BK. shouldnt matter because the original shows more detail than my backup.

See for yourself, compare a the same frame in the original VOB and the encoded VOB in DVD2AVI (change to RGB mode). Open two windows side by side. If there really is a difference there, then fine, you have to do something to fix it.

But if not, then its not a fault of the encoding but something to do with the decoding or display. I've heard some TV's change to a "cinematic" contrast mode when macrovision is received, while others do this based on the RGB input (SCART).

It could be also a "placebo" effect.
