Hello!

I just downloaded the Terminator 2 High Definition Trailer (WMV HD).

It plays so incredible slow, it's just annoying.

My machine should be fast enough:

3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading
1024 MB RAM
nVidia Geforce FX5700 VE with 256 MB RAM
(with new drivers)

So why the hell is it so slow????

I also noticed that the video of some games (Battlefield Vietnam) is very slow, too. It says "EA Games - Challenge Every ... thi ... ng".

What is wrong?

There is no problem playing ordinary MPEG2 oder AVI(DivX)-Videos.

There is no virus scanner running in the backround.

what OS are you running?
do otehr wmv files (non hdtv) work?

some blind guess:
-any aplication(s) in the background hogging your CPU/RAM/HD
-outdated codec(s)
-some wrong settings in the player or wrong filters in the chain

Had the same problem some time ago !!!

Found no other solution than re-installing windoze...

Maybe it was just some sort of "bad-decompressor.dll" somewhere ???

Bye

Well, i don't have any other WMV-files ;)

There are not many processes in the backround, CPU-usage is about 1%!

Even when I kill all unnecessary processes, so that just 18 are still running, it plays the video at the same slow speed.

OS is WinXP Pro, Media Player is 9.0

ok, difficult one

i assume when you say 1% cpu usage, that RAM also is mostly free

then i only got 2 sugegstions left:
1. in WMP use the update-feature and update everything(!) to the newest version (maybe also the window-update brings something needed up to date)

2. if WMP just won't do it try rendering the file in graphedit
the filter-chain it builds might give some clues about the problem

While playing, CPU usage is abot 60-70%!
BUT THE DAMN VIDEO PLAYS DAMN SLOW!

Anyway, in Graphedit it is played fastly and without any problems! (I don't hear the sound, as the speakers are not any more connected to my PC, but I guess it works, as it worked before, and the WMA-decoder-filter and the Direct-Show-Output were inserted).

But It need to be played in WMP! When I'll buy the DVD (T2), I think the copyright protection only works in WMP!
