Would a problem with the .ifo make a dvd work on the computer, where you can navigate the menu with the mouse, and yet not in the player where you need to navigate with the controller? It reads the disc fine, just refuses to navigate the menu.

I usually test with BOTH PowerDVD and WinDVD before burning.. they handle dvd's differently and have always caught navigation errors (the other might work perfectly and the other hangs).

Thanks, I'll have to remember that next time. Any ideas on a possible fix?

If these are still menus, you can fix it, or at lest check if it's the case, in VobEdit. Open the VOB with the menus, click the Button option, and find the NAV packs for the cells with the buttons. When you double-click on the line corresponding a button, it will bring up navigation info among other stuff.

That in itself brings up a good point.
When testing menu navigation in a software player, always use the arrow keys on the keyboard (and the enter key) - never the mouse.
The mouse highlights whatever button is under it. It doesn't test cursor movement between buttons at all. This has bitten me once or twice; I had a menu button that was unreachable (very irritating).

Yup, that's definitely the problem... now I just need to figure out which number I've goofed up and fix it. :p
(thank god for dvd r/w)
Funny thing is, I double checked it before I erased it again, and menu nav on the computer worked with the mouse and the arrow keys... yet it will not work on the player itself.
