View Full Version : Strange flickering problem

I have a problem playing videos where framerate is different to monitor refreshrate that I explained in topic "Renderers and Tearing"

Is a "double image" problem related to this? When using the Tearing Test from reclock is cleary visible. When paused the line in clear, but when playing the line flickers between two positions, making the line of the double size than when paused.

I ever thinked this was a common problem!!!
I tried and at 5fps the line doesn't moves smoothly and is difficult to see the effect. A double size line isn't visible but the line flickers a little.
But playing with framerates I saw that the problems goes when I put framerate at refreshrate.
But the problem doesn't goes by putting framerate, to say, 60 fps. The problem goes if framerate is 60fps and refreshrate is 60Hz too, if framerate is 60 fps and refreshrate is 90 the problem still exists!!!

Now someone knows of a filter that repeats frames then I can play movies at 75fps at normal speed and without the problem?

Now I tried to change a 25fps video to 75fps with VirtualDubMod, the result is that the line (from reclock) is showed three times. The line from the right is perfect, the line from middle flickers and the line from the left flickers more (at double than the middle line?)...and the three lines now aren't joined, there is a space of a line in size between lines.
This flicker seems not being because moving video, if I pause it the three lines are still there (sometimes there is only one or two, depends if I pause when they flicker or no).

Without knowing how VirtualDubMod changes framerate and how the line from reclock is generated I can't say much from this. Someone has some idea of what happened here?

P.D.: The petition for a directshow filter that repeats frames to try is still there, is someone know from one...
