DarkAvenger published a new alpha version of HeadAC3he with FAAC and AC3 support on the german Doom9.org forum in this thread:

"Alpha" in this case means that you cannot set the VBR quality or other values yet (i.e. it uses default -q 100 instead of -q 75), and it swaps the centre and front left channel. It would be great if you could test it nevertheless, because in my tests libfaac.dll (slightly changed from the CVS version) adds a very short "garbage frame" at the end which seems to stem from the middle of the WAV input file. I'm on travel for the next two days, so it would help DarkAvenger with his implementation if someone would confirm this behaviour soon.

nice to see some support for the opensource aac encoder coming up :)
it can already keep up qualitywise with some commercial aac encoders (like the one from real) and would also offer multichannel encoding :)

I would to know if Dark had integrated the final version of aoTuV-dlls but no.
Because : listen his notes:

aoTuV beta2 release note

"aoTuV" tunes up libvorbis 1.0.1 uniquely.
A license is taken as "BSD-style license" as well as original libvorbis.

# NOTICE #

On the frequency of 26kHz or more, q-2(nominal 40kbps/44.1-48kHz) can be used. A part of Nominal bitrate has changed.
Use of bitrate management mode is not recommended. (In the future, psy.c and mapping0.c will need to be improved. ) Please specify this, when you compile this code and you distribute a binary. If you want to improve this portion, I welcome. iFor the moment, there is no schedule for which I improve this problem. )

aoTuV based on <Xiph.Org libvorbis 1.0.1>

As far as I know, RealNetwork's implementation of the Coding Technologies AAC codec is CBR-only like QuickTime and Winamp 5.03 (both using Dolby codecs) as well as Sorenson Squeeze (FhG Pro).

And FAAC has been implemented in quite a lot of GUIs besides HeadAC3he in the meantime: 3ivx, foobar2000, Winamp, CoolEdit, GX::Transcoder, CDex (either libfaac.dll or command line), BonkEnc, Easy CD-DA Creator as well as all GUIs that can use an external command line codec like EAC, Audiograbber or Speek's Multi frontend and Ivan & Menno.

Concerning HeadAC3he the bugs with swapped channels and garbage frame at the end are fixed in the alpha10a version that DarkAvenger posted on Saturday in the same thread. There are still no options for setting other -q (VBR quality) or -b (total average bitrate) values yet.

i don't understand German(?), maybe hans-jürgen or Ligh can translate and help us to understand "what's new" ! :) Now the options for FAAC are implemented, but use some wrong defaults like the Main profile instead of LC and a cutoff at 20 kHz instead of 16 kHz for a VBR quality of 100%. Since you can change this to the recommended settings (see e.g. the thread about 5.1 FAAC encoding in this forum), it is not that important. The sample rate 24 kHz for downsampling the input is available now, too.

MP4 output is still not possible, so you would have to use mp4creator/mp4UI afterwards for muxing the multichannel AAC track with a MPEG-4 video track. MP4Box (file muxer from the GPAC project) wouldn't work for this, because it doesn't accept AAC ADTS files as input. I don't know if the muxer in the IBM Toolkit for MPEG-4 could handle them, but 3ivx DS filters should work, too.
