As h.264 is going to be our future "best" video codec, why don't we add a new forum under the MPEG-4 and Co. category??? I thing that it will be very usefull!!!:D

Why? There is not that much going on message wise to warrent a section of it's own. Before such thing can happen one or two other things need to happen. Either a flood of worthwhile h.264 threads, or the combination of one or two of the opensource h.264 codecs and their need of such a section much like Xvid. Till that happens no matter how much I like h.264 I don't see it happening for a while.

OK! We will have to wait a little bit longer as I see!
I hope to see the opensource codecs (h.264) growing up!

There have been some nice developments of late with them. And in the next shootout it is likely the codec I will put my money on. Well either it or Xvid.

imo it's just a matter of time. If you look at the path MPEG-4 and Co./New A/V Formats - Codecs this is exactly right at the moment - h.264 is the new Mpeg-4 codec after all. But in a year or two h.264 will probably be quite standard - people will use it to actually encode for archieving purposes and programs like gordian knot will support it. At this time it could just move 'a folder' up and reside in MPEG-4 and Co./AVC or there could even be fora for different implementatios like now there is no Mpeg-4 ASP forum but one each for DivX and Xvid.

I wish my codec had its own forum, but it can't even keep one thread active for very long.

(I feel a bit guilty about that ;))
Maybe if you provide makefiles for gcc/mingw I can do some testing for you, but please don't say I have to download 200 MB of M$ Crap SDK/compiler to compile it :)
its my opinion too that at the moment its far too early for an own h.264 forum:
first of all we would need to have some really practicably usable h.264 codecs (preferbly a great opensource one :D ), atm h.264 is only interesting for testing, but times will change i think :)

Forums are created in function of the popularity of the discussion topic.. I think it's only a matter of time for H.264, but right now there aren't too many threads about this yet. Maybe later this year.

I have no idea how to create something like that. Feel free to compile it under whatever you want, last time that was tried the core compiled fine. Dunno about the VFW code under other systems, but you'd probably want to write a different API interface anyway.
