View Full Version : The only reason I burn on DVD-R instead of DVD+R is they don't make doublesided discs

I've read all the great things DVD+R has to offer. Now with all that in mind, the only reason I will continue to use DVD-R instead of +R is the fact that my discs all live in my DVD jukeboxes, where I can flip the discs. This means I can store twice as many movies on my player if I store double sided discs on them. Well it seems that only the DVD-R camp has enough brains to know that double-sided DVD-Rs are important enough to some of us that they should be manufactured. Until I see the DVD+R camp produce double-sided recordables, my money will be 100% in the DVD-R camp!

I guess you can come over to the DVD+R camp soon.

Kano/Verbatim announced a double sided DVD+R disc back in January 2004 at CES.

I'm wondering why nobody makes double-sided readers. It worked out very well for the floppy drives about twenty years ago, but it looks like nobody has ever tried to build a double-sided DVD drive. The only reason I can think of is the interference between the two lasers, but this could probably be fixed by positioning them away from each other.

This is excellent news. Now if they can also come out with a double-sided recordable DVD+R DL, then I would also upgrade to the DVD+R DL format. It may be asking alot, especially since it's still early in the game, but I really hope they see the benefit of producing such discs. For me it would mean re-burning all my movies onto double-sided DVD+R DL discs, and by doing so, I can squeeze 3,600 movies onto my 3 DVD 300disc jukeboxes that currently hold 1,800 movies total (on double-sided discs).
