View Full Version : Scenarist Audio Attributes Problem!
Yesss! It feels good to finally get on the forums!
I've spent so long in the #doom9 irc channel and learnt so much.
My latest movie, (The Shawshank Redemption) I am backing up using the ultimate Big3 process! Unfortunately when I am um to the scenarist stage and import the file Scenaid created for me I get this error...
Error The Audio Attributes (Language, coding mode, etc.) of Stream ID 0 in PGC "VTS1_Title2_PGC2" is different from the existing PGC "VTS1_Title1_PGC1" in Title "VTS1_Title2". The Audio Attributes of PGC's must be the same within VTS Titles.

Would it help you to know that the movie has one vts in which the .ac3 files have two different bitrates 192 and 384. I heard the audio layout needs to be the same for each PCC. I look in track editor and Audio 1 is say 192 in one PGC and 384 for another.
If any brainy person could help out it would be nmuch appreciated!
I'll be posting in these forums alot as doom9 simply rocks!!!!
hi staz and welcome to the forum!
as this error you are receiving is directly related to using the 'big 3' tools, i would suggest posting in that forum for any future problems you have, as although the users of these tools scan through the other forums, you are a lot more likely to receive the best help there.
anyways, back to your problem.
first thing i would recommend is trying ReAuthorist on this title to generate your script (unless you had to demux by vob-id). although Scenaid is getting better day by day, it is still under heavy development.
if this does not work, or you wish to try your hand at manual authoring, you could easily remove the troublesome audio streams from your tracks, re-import those streams (its as easy as drag'n'drop from your demux folders into the data editor tab) and add them in the right order to your tracks.
easy to do, hard to explain ;)
out of interest though could you check the filenames of the audio tracks in your DIF4U demux folders for that pgc as see if they are correctly named. that is, audio stream '0' is 384 kbps throughout and stream '1' is 192 kbps throughout.
good luck
j
edit:
okay i probably made that way more complicated than it need be
all you probably need to do is check which audio stream is '0' and which is '1' then adjust the audio in the tracks so that they all correspond - by deleting icorrectly set ones and creating new audio streams and dragging from the data tabs into the track window.
make sure though that your language is correctly set between different pgc's within a vts. that is, if audio stream 1 is set to English in pgc 1, make sure all audio streams in following pgc's are also set to 'English
I thought I should maybe tell you that I have before got past the scenarist stage before by changing all the ac3 bitrates to 384. I then created a new script with scenaid and scenarist went fine. Unfortunately right at the last minute when I went to create my iso it wouldn' t let me as the file size was too big :(
I have got away with using his technique before but not this time :D
I will try some of your suggestions starting with using reauthorist. Thanks very much jel!
so if i understand you correctly, you re-encode the audio to 384?
to save space?
anyways, if your only a little bit over and you need to shave a few megs off, you could:
1. use numen4u (if you havent alreday) to re-encode your menu
2. re-encode one (or more) of your extras at a lower bitrate
3. use 're-jig' (you can find some links in the 'one-click' back-up forum, to (very quickly) reduce one of your .mpv files to a smaller size - it takes a bit of tweaking but would be the quickest way of reducing a file. although i would not recommend using it on extras that have already been shrunk to their max.
hth
j
25 megs I think it was. I'll try one of your suggestions to make it smaller.
Wasn't to save space. I thought that all the PGCs in a vts have to have the same bitrate. Am i correct? Probably not :D
no
you can have multiple audio streams that have different bitrates however they have to be consistent between pgc's within a vts
for example:
pgc_1 - audio stream 1 - 448 kbps
audio stream 2 - 384 kbps
audio stream 3 - 192 kbps
pgc_2 - audio stream 1 - 448 kbps
audio stream 2 - 384 kbps
audio stream 3 - 192 kbps
is perfectly acceptable.
however:
pgc_1 - audio stream 1 - 192 kbps
audio stream 2 - 384 kbps
audio stream 3 - 448 kbps
pgc_2 - audio stream 1 - 384 kbps
audio stream 2 - 448 kbps
audio stream 3 - 192 kbps
is not allowed.
Aaah i see now. So audio stream 1 for each PGC must be the same and audio stream 2 the same for each PGC etc?
Thanks once again!
Hey. My layout is like the bad one :D
Some pgcs have audio stream 1 as 384 and others as 192.
How can i fix this up?
Or do u think i'd be better encoding all the .ac3s to 384 and do some shrink methods.
Cheers
Ben
that is really strange, and should not be happening
could you please check the audio file names in your DIF4U demux folder for the vts that is giving you grief, and paste the file names here. and also if you could post the audio part of the ifo (from ifoedit) it would also help
thanks
lol everyone on the doom9 forums found it weird also!
I'll get to it right away.

Sorry. I don't know much about ifoedit. Can u possibly guide me to finding the audio section?
Thanks
download ifoedit (see doom9 download page) and double click on the .exe
click on 'open' and navigate to your vts_01.ifo (original).
select 'copy2clipboard' an paste the contents of this here. please edit out all the information after audio details of the vts are displayed.
cheers

Probably got the wrong thing :D
Hopefully not
yes thats what i wanted to see.
for those of you following this, the only thing i can think might have caused this, is that Staz deselected the second audio stream in DIF4U when demuxing and that this has somehow resulted in these weird file names.
so as a test, Staz is currently demuxing the original again, this time with both streams selected.
hopefully this will produce 24 .ac3 files looking something like this:
VTS__01_P01-80-384K-[0ms]-ch6NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P02-80-384K-[0ms]-ch6NotSpecified.AC3

and

VTS__01_P02-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P03-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3

VTS__01_P05-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P06-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P07-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P08-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P09-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P10-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P11-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
VTS__01_P12-81-192K-[0ms]-ch2NotSpecified.AC3
we can then use the first lot of 384 kbps .ac3 files to overwrite the ones in the original demux folder (deleting the others first), and then use Scenaid to generate a new script with the correct audio.
fingers crossed :D

Actually, I've seen it with some commerical DVDs. "Chocolat" (German PAL) comes to mind. There is one VTS with multiple PGCs, all have one 2ch AC3 audio stream but it's 192 kbps in some and 224 kbps in other PGCs. I know it's against DVD specs but they obviously did it. All you can do in these cases is reencoding the AC3.
grrrr .... well heres another case of proprietary authoring applications making life difficult for us
thanks for the confirmation RB. as i have never come across this before i didnt realise it was even possible ...
anyways, so Staz, looks like your best bet may be to re-encode to 384 kbps, and reduce one of your files so that it will fit.
...unless with your second demux something more rational occurs...
Thanks everyone. I took your advice Jel and used doitfast4u this time keeping both the 6 channel and 2 channel audio streams. I am left with 24 .ac3s.
Is there a way of posting a pic to show all my .ac3 files?
Certainly. When you post a message, you should see an 'attach file' option. Your attachments will not appear immediately, though, so you will need to be patient until a moderator checks that they are ok, and allows them.

I did this and my result was somewhat different to this.
For each PGC there is a -80 .ac3 and a -81 .ac3 as normal.
Unfortunately the -80 .ac3s aren't all 384k and the -81 ac3s are all 192k. Is this bad ?
sorry Staz, you can save yourself the effort of posting that pic.
RB was spot on .. those ac3 files are encoded at all kinds of bitrates :(
i will see if i can attach it for everyone else to see

Hmm what a funny thing. I wouldn't have reencoded the files I think. What about this solution (if the bitrates really are different):
artificially make it two audioa streams for every pgc and use a dummy where needed:
PGC1:
audio1: original 448 audio
audio2: 192 kbs dummy
Pgc2:
audio1: dummy 448 kbs
audio2: 192 kbs original
etc
after compiling you arange things you want them to be in the ifo
so open up the ifo, go to pg_city and the corresponding ifo. Change the stream values. So in this case copy the stream value of audio stream2 of pgc2 to stream value 1. Etc.
Hopefully this is clear enough :)
wow flu .... nice solution!
i will file that one away for future use!

Ahh! Just realised that you haven't been registered for more than a week. I think that may well be the reason.

Thanks Influenza.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to do any of that :(
Could anyone help out with following Flu's instructions?
Thanks :D
sorry staz, i have been a bit busy of late. anyways, heres some further explanation for you:
note: this is for keeping the first audio track only. if you wish to keep both streams, it is the same theory, only you will need to create 4 audio streams.
step 1: open up VTS_01_P01 in the track editor (and for the sake of starting with a clean slate), delete any existing audio streams.
step 2: create two new audio streams (audio stream 1 to contain the 384 kbps audio streams, and audio stream 2 to contain the 192 kbps streams. Dont forget to set a language for each stream and to keep the naming consistent between pgc's.
step 3: import dummy audio files. you will need a 384 and a 192 kbps audio fill. if you do not allready have these you can find them on trilights site.
step 4: add your audio streams. so for VTS_01_P01, you will add your original 384K stram to audio stream 1, and add a 192K dummy file to audio stream 2). repeat for all pgc's as follows:
VTS_01_P01 audio 1 384 kbps original
audio 2 192 kbps dummy
VTS_01_P02 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
VTS_01_P03 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
VTS_01_P04 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
VTS_01_P05 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
VTS_01_P06 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
VTS_01_P07 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
VTS_01_P08 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
VTS_01_P09 audio 1 384 kbps original
audio 2 192 kbps dummy
VTS_01_P10 audio 1 384 kbps original
audio 2 192 kbps dummy
VTS_01_P11 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
VTS_01_P12 audio 1 384 kbps dummy
audio 2 192 kbps original
step 5: compile scenario, and perform the 'ifoupdate' step as usual.
step 6: load VTS_01.ifo in ifoedit and navigate to the pg_citi section and adjust your streams per pgc. for example pgc_01 would be kept as is, pgc_02: copy audio stream number from audio stream 1 to audio stream 2, etc
step 7: test results in 'dvd play', burn and enjoy
hope that made sense.
j
flu: if you have anything to add/correct, please jump in
Thanks heaps Jel.
Sorry I'm not too clever with this all.
When you mention track editor, what do u mean? What should I use?
This is the stage I am in :
Have just finished encoding with cce 2.67.00.23
Scenaid has created a scenaid30.scp file.
I have followed the big3 guide exactly.
When you say delete all existing streams what do you mean?
Do I delete all the .ac3 files in the vts01 folder?
I think I just kept the first 6 channel stream.
Hopefully my queastions haven't been too dumb.
Thanks Ben
okay, well lets take a step back a bit then.
sorry i had assumed you had already imported your scenaid script and were somewhat familiar with scenarist.
so ... import you scenaid.scp file.
in scenarist you will see four main window tabs at the top right hand of the window - 'data editor', 'track editor', 'scenario editor' and layout editor (?- mental blank - i think this is right)
so you need to select vts_01_p01 in the track editor window and follow the steps as detailed above.
you can also do me a favour and read some of the guides avaliable on using scenarist. eg. Scenarist NT (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/scenarist.htm) and any of the old 'big 3' guides.
and no, dont delete anything from your folders. all your 'editing' will be done in scenarist and ifoedit.
good luck
Hey JeL!
I am in scenarist and am in track editor
Which step do I carry on from.
Cheers
Ben
step 1: open up VTS_01_P01 in the track editor (and for the sake of starting with a clean slate), delete any existing audio streams.
