Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm having a problem with Besweet. Everytime I try to convert a wav file (doesn't matter the size or type of wav [32bit,16bit,mono, stereo]or what kind of conversion I'm attempting [wav-ogg, wav-mp3,wav-6 wavs]) I get an error stating it's an unknown file type - "Error 58: Error : Unknown Input-File Format : ".

Does anyone know a reason for this? It always says valid when I first load it using the gui.

Maybe the WAV headers are corrupt.

Did you try fixing them with BeSplit?

Example:

besplit -core( -input in.wav -prefix out -type wav -fix -logfile BeSplit.log )

Get latest beta from DSPGuru's site and please post your logfiles.

Just tried it and it was a no-go. It says in the log it was fixed but I still get the same error. This is what the besplit log showed:

Does Besweet need the external ASPI interface or does it work with the native win 32 interface for XP? I'm running the native win 32.

1. Use latest betas besplit 0.9b6 and besweet 1.5b28.

2. Are you sure that you have an uncompressed WAV file?

If you deal with WAV-MP3 with RIFF-WAV header, try the following:

besplit -core( -input in.wav -prefix out -type mp3 -fix )

This shoudl strip the WAV header and give you an MP3 file. The same works for other formats I guess (maybe not Ogg Vorbis, but where the hell does one get an Ogg Vorbis file with WAV header?)

I've tried 3 different versions of besweet and all the same result. I've tried using 3 different rippers with 3 different versions of besweet and get the same result.:)

I'm not really using it for mp3, mostly to convert to DTS and AC3. I recently did a fresh install of XP and since then it won't work for me. Before that it always worked. I must have installed something that interferes with besweet or didn't install something it needs.

All other audio programs I have recognize them as wavs and allow editing and conversion. I'm baffled.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Is there a hip.dll in your BeSweet folder?

Yes, I have that dll.

If you want to be further confounded - I installed an external copy of Lame and now I can encode a stereo wav to mp3. It also now converts a stereo wav to 6 wavs and ac3. The strange part? It won't convert a 6 channel wav to 6 wavs and it won't convert any kind of wav to ogg without getting the "Error 58: Error : Unknown Input-File Format : " popup.

All that changed even though I put the lame.exe in a different folder. My head is ready to explode.

Mine, too.

I really don't understand what's going on on your side. Maybe your system is totally screwed? If you have the time, I'd recommend to reinstall Windows and see what's happening then...

I don't think it's the system because other programs allow me to use 6 channel wavs. Audobe Audition has no problem converting a 6 channel mono wav to 6 mono wavs. And wav2wav6 works as well, though I only used it once. Plus I just did a clean install 3 weeks ago. I've also scanned my computer with 2 different virus programs and Spybot and it's clean.

I managed to get everything (wav-ogg,wav-ac3,wav-mp3) but the 6 channel mono wav working by using external codecs.

I have another partition so I suppose I could re-install XP on there and see if it gives me troubles. Right now I get the same results.

same problem here!
First because of expiring we (daphy & @ndy) use the new Bidule version with a 32/44.1 WAV (converted Audition)
-> 6WAV file

log:
--------------------------
BeSweet v1.5b28 by DSPguru.

(commandline wasnīt part of the logfile??? but we use the standart profile 6WAV to DTS(44.1) from the GUI)

first thought -> new bidule sucks

tried 16/44.1 same error
tried latest besplit(0.9b7) -> stop this program after 30 min (for a 44 sec. WAV) no result (sorry no log too) ended with a 11kb file

tried same constelation on a other computer and ended up with the same error

third computer:

WAV converted with with Audition/WAVLAB to 32 bit

changed system time to 2th april so that the old bidule (0.6502) wouldnīt expire

@DSPGURU
can you please check this out :(

Look slike BeSweet currently only handles no WAVE Format Extensible and no 24-bit.

So you must set 'never' for the WAVE Format Extensible (with Preference), and use 16 or 32 bit for the Audio File Writer with Plogue Bidule.

Hey man,

this workaround WORKS :D :D :D

BTW I noticed that the GUI has some trouble with longer path names

- anyway - letīs bidule again ;)

Yes! It works! Thanks everyone!

Something so simple.
