View Full Version : Does DVD-RB use 1 or 2 pass with ReJig?

If DVD-RB does not use 2 pass with ReJig will it have that option in the future?

Would like to use ReJig option for DVD compressions less than 10% (x > 90%) but would DVD shrink with deep analysis produce the same quality as ReJig?

Comments and suggestions please.

I guess when OPV is nailed down, I'l just use that option for x > 90% (10% or less compression).

ReJig doesn't do correct two pass, the first pass in two pass is for size estimation. For DVD-RB, it's working with raw M2V Files, so it knows the size and has no need of a first pass.

Nic,

Thanks for the info. Any comments on ReJig quality over DVD shrink deep analysis? I known its subjective.

Thanks again

I think it does better job than DVDshrink. but honestly it is no match for Nic's another baby Quenc or CCE

too bad that Quenc with Tretlis takes that long ;)

It's all a matter of taste. Remember to load up ReJig and change it to the Engine (old or new) you want to use before loading DVD-RB. The quality differs (I still use Old, but others prefer New)...

ps
@Jdobbs: There is an option in the Registry under localmachine/software/rejig to change the engine to use. You could add that in the options of DVD-RB if you wanted...up to you of course :)

Without getting too far into it, its been said that transcoding generally produces higher quality than reencoding when only minimal compression is needed. This makes good sense to me.

Now that RB-Loader is out, DVD-RB/Rejig is a competitive solution to DVD Shrink and similar tools that both decrypt and transcode. Stability/reliability may not be quite up to par, but for many of us, quality is worth the potential for bugs.

With that said, I think its worth asking (or re-emphasizing blueboyec's question) of how Rejig's output quality compares to DVD Shrink. Also, at what compression level do you switch from transcoding to reencoding for an average-priority project of average original quality?

It does depend on the DVD but, I have had better results with Rejig using DVD-RB than with Shrink anddeep anlaysis.

The DVD was Back to the Future, the compression was only about 10% but, still did a better job. The DVD had edge enhancement in a few scenes which was less noticeable with rejig and made the overall image sharper.

I am very impressed with Nic's Rejig and Quenc.
