What final product would have better results? Capture a larger formated 720x480 avi
Then encode it with a low bitrate mpeg-2 encoding to get a full 720x480 DVD on a 4.3-4.5gbs DVD.

or capture a 352x480 formated avi. Then encode it with a higher bitrate for the mpeg-2 encoding??

I have been doing 352x480 for sometime now and have thought this is the better way. But I don't know why it is, nor have I ever did the 720x480 way. I just like to get some feedback if I am doing this correctly or I should be changing my thoughts. I am game for anything that gives a better result!

Which then leads me to the next question to caculate bitrate for half dvd? Is there any caculators out there for this I can only find them for DVD? Or would it be the same bitrate as if it was a full DVD?

Have you seen Question #9 in the Capture FAQ (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32575)?

The only thing that determines the output size is the bitrate not the resolution.

For example:
720x480 at 6,000 bitrate will be the same size as 352x480 at 6,000 bitrate. Both will have the same file size.

You have this mixed up. Don't get it confused.
You should encode 720x480 at high bitrate and encode 352x480 at a lower bitrate. 352x480 does not need as high a bitrate as 720x480. Thats why you resize in the first place!

Thanks for clearing that up for me, yes I was confused about the bit rate and resolution.
