View Full Version : Resulting file way oversize

Hi,

Got a strange one here. Have been using CCE to transcode some DivX files to MPEG2 for DVD authoring.

All the files are from the same source, with exactly the same encoding, and are all pretty much equal in size, around the 350meg mark.

On each file, after doing the initial pass to create the VAF file, I've then upped the average bit rate to 3kbps, which CCE predicts will create a file of approximately 960meg in size. On all previous files, this has turned out to be correct, and that's the sort of size I get.

Now the latest file doesn't appear to differ in any way from the past ones, and again CCE predicts a file size around the 960meg mark at 3kbps average bitrate, yet the resultant file is over 1.4gig in size!?

I've done the encode twice now just to check it wasn't some weird anomaly. What on earth is going on here? Can anyone shed any light?

TIA :)

Further to this, executing pulldown on the resulting file shows the average bitrate as 4.8kbps which would certainly explain the file size. Why on earth would I get a 4.8kbps average bitrate when I specified 3kbps in CCE?

Are you sure you are using Multipass VBR?

Yeah, three passes. I sat and watched it last night and the first pass was fine at 3kbps, the second was very low indeed and produced a very small file, then the third went up to 4.8kbps! Seriously weird.

Today I scrapped the mpv and vaf files and started again from scratch, and it appears to have worked now. All I can think is that the vaf file was corrupt in some way.

Which version of CCE were you using? I get the same thing every now and then using v2.67.23. About once every 30 to 40 encodes. I watched it one time go from around 3k in the vaf to over 7k on the mpv. I have no idea what causes this. I was using a 3 pass multipass session.
