View Full Version : D2SRoBa will not work unless in "auto" number of cds

I Have put "auto" in for the number of cds to use and everything works fine. But it outputs the movie to 4 svcds. I want the movie on 2 cds so when I change the number of cds to 2 it freezes (everytime) in the "Start VBR sizing pass (1498 kbps)" stage. After that if i close out that window, it will continue and later give me an error saying the hux value is to large. Im definatly a newbie to all this even though ive used DVD2SVCD for a while. Ive just never learned what all goes on behind the scenes. Ive looked over the forum but cant find anyone talking about this problem. Thanks.

Here is my D2SRoBa log and just incase, my DVD2SVCD log is under that:

It should not error out, so hopefully tylo can comment on that.

As for your log, I think it is nearly trying to do a favor for you. Observe the Q search above. That would be one nasty looking encode with Q values like that over a hundred!

Q40 is just about the minimally acceptable you should use unless really pushing to minimize CD count of DVD space. I use Q28 as a target goal. Some people can stomach up to Q50. If you are dead set on doing this type of thing then install the conditional filter for use by D2SRoBa (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74000). It will at least help you out quite a bit. Do this:

Paste this in to the bottom of avisynth.ini in your DVD2SVCD installation directory using notepad.

[AVISYNTH_D2SRoBa BicubicResize w/Conditional Filter]
0=Import(!RoBaConditional.avs)
1=BicubicResize(^TargetWidth,^TargetHeight,^b_value,^c_value)
2=AddBorders(^BorderLeft,^BorderTop,^BorderRight,^BorderBottom)
!RoBaConditional.avs=C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Tylo\RoBaConditional.avs
^b_value=0.0
^c_value=0.6

[AVISYNTH_D2SRoBa LanczosResize w/Conditional Filter]
0=Import(!RoBaConditional.avs)
1=LanczosResize(^TargetWidth,^TargetHeight)
2=AddBorders(^BorderLeft,^BorderTop,^BorderRight,^BorderBottom)
!RoBaConditional.avs=C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Tylo\RoBaConditional.avs

[AVISYNTH_D2SRoBa BiLinearResize w/Conditional filter]
0=Import(!RoBaConditional.avs)
1=BilinearResize(^TargetWidth,^TargetHeight)
2=AddBorders(^BorderLeft,^BorderTop,^BorderRight,^BorderBottom)
!RoBaConditional.avs=C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Tylo\RoBaConditional.avs

Save the code below as "RoBaConditional.avs" and put in the tylo directory in your DVD2SVCD installation directory.

#start of script
Undot().Deen()
#end of script

Now, D2SRoBa will know the conditional filter is available and will use it when needed, all rather magically and automatically. Set the "Cond filter under%" in D2SRoBa to about 25%.

/Add1: Make sure you have undot.dll (http://www.avisynth.org/warpenterprises/files/undot_25_dll_20030118.zip) and Deen.dll (http://www.avisynth.org/warpenterprises/files/deen_25_dll_20030813.zip) in your avisynth plugins directory. NOT the one in the Dvd2svcd intallation directory. On my machine that would be - C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins

/Add2: This really should be added to the next d2s installation package as the new D2SRoBa that will come with it also supports the conditional filter for DVDs.

I dont want to lose quality out of this. Quality like you is a top priority. But the first time I used D2SRoBa, it was awesome and the feature fit on 2 CDs (like most). this movie is a 128 minutes long so i would think it would still be good quality on 2 cds. But D2SRoBa has never worked like the first time again. It freezes everytime. Ive tried it in different ways everytime. I found the "best settings" in the faq and those dont work either. Im going to try to use just DVD2SVCD with tmpgenc tonight and see if it works the old way. I added both those plug ins but it still didnt work. I know its probably something really easy and i should know what it is but i cant figure it out. If there is anything more i could try, please let me know. thanks again.

Probably a complete uninstall and reinstall of dvd2svcd and avisynth would be the first suggestion as it sounds like something has changed in your setup. I also wondered about the high Q on that movie. It is not that long and should not cause these values, but it is interlaced. That can cause a lot of extra space to be needed. I'll bet it is full screen also.

As for the conditionals, just do as suggested exactly.

Your log is weird. First the Q=102 for a 1500kbps is possible, but very rare, so something seems wrong. But what really strange is the size you get after the opv-pass: 659.7% on target! I think CCE chokes (freezes) when doing the second VBR pass, because it can't resize such a huge oversized (and possible garbaged) .mpv file.

I think you should do a complete reinstall, like DDogg suggested.

Ive reinstalled 2 times. Even formatted to get rid of the problem. when it occured again. I signed up for this forum and started asking questions. I will try it again. But yes. it is full screen. tmpgenc is still working on it, I wanna see if it finishes without screwing up.

Ive reinstalled and didnt touch any settings. Just did a default export. I just wanted to ask real quick, does this part of my log say that 4 cds will be used to get the whole movie? if so, could i use that question mark so it will ask me how many cds to use?
Thanks again

Ah, "- Estim. oversize : 4.3% for 3 CDs". So the conditional would have brought this down to 3 Cd's, which would make a little more sense with interlaced, full screen. You are using a 480 width, correct? btw, please post you avisynth script. I would like to see how D2S is handling the interlaced. Interlaced encoding is not near as automatic as progressive and normally takes a few manual tweaks.
