I have used Instant Copy 8 and DvdShrink to backup my dvd's.the media i have used mostly is Princo's 4x.They proved good to me.But now knowing that Ritek is by far better media with good prices i want to ask you my friens ,if i transfer my movies from my Princo dvd's to the Ritek dvd's will i have problems, and in what cases these problems will occur? All the dvd's i made played perfect on my Shaub Lorenz dvd which isn't a good standalone dvd player.

My burner likes Princo's and Nero CD/DVD Speed tests out well. They play well in all my standalones. I don't used them though because of longevity concerns. RitekG04's can be had for about $.80 these days and are pretty well respected (seems to be some sample to sample problems for some). A straight disc copy should work if you choose to go to Ritek. You could get a Ritek Sample pack from Meritline and do your own test before committing to any quantities.

I have written discs that I did not check right after the burn then later found out the burn was bad and the disc was not entirely readable. You might encounter this kind of problem. Sometimes the error can be skipped and the rest of the disc copied without problems but usually the copy can not go past the bad errors.

I know always play the burned disc and view a few seconds of the chapters as I skip past each one, especially the last few chapters since this is where most media errors occur. Also, I use the branded Ridata/Ritek G04 matte top discs as these are proving to be the best quality of this class of discs. My own experience with Princo is they suck and nearly all the problem discs I still have are those burns that I did with Princos ages ago.

You might also not have any errors on the discs today but down the road those crap Princo discs may start becoming unreadable. Depending on how many you have, you may want to copy them off to better media now.

I used Princo in the past and the disks checked out perfectly.
A few weeks later they didn't, 6 months later and none of them work.
I only use Ritek dye media now, none that originally checked out
as OK have failed yet, and it's been over a year with some of them.

I would use something like dvddecryptor to read those disks to an iso file and then write them back out to Ritek media right away! don't delay...the longer your wait the greater chance your princo backups will be ruined.
