I make DVD's from time to time using VCD MPEG-1 or CVD MPEG-2.

It's very easy to do this using TMPGEnc DVD Author, because you can just drop the MPEG into DVD Author and make a menu. The audio will get re-encoded and then re-mux'd with the original MPEG. You get to keep the original VCD/CVD quality since the video is not re-encoded.

The problem is, I have some MPEG files which have gotten slightly corrupted, and some MPEG files which I want to do some trimming with. I need to be able to cut a little bit out of the middle without actually re-encoding. I tried using VirtualDubMod, but it doesn't let you do a direct stream copy with MPEG. The corrupt files are the important thing. Media Player can plan them just fine, but if I try to drop them into TMPGEnc DVD Author, it screws up the sync after the bad spot.

Is there anything that can edit MPEG's without re-encoding them?

Why don't you try drooping the corrupted MPEG into TDA twice. Trim the first copy to play the beginng, and the second copy to play the part after the bad spot.

TDA ia a excellent mpg cutter. Drop in the mpg, mark the beginning keyframe and the end keyframe. Everything you want to cut will be highlighted in blue. Click on the delete selection button. You will end up with a perfect cut with perfect audio sync. This, of course assumes you have audio sync to start with.

www.tecoltd.com will sell you an app called "bitrate viewer". No encoder should be without this. It will also allow basic editing & trimming etc. of MPEG streams.

Check it out.
