Hiya pps
Say i have a 700MB DivX movie (5.1.1 codec) with a video bit rate of 796 kbps (0.58% overhead). If I want to burn it on a DVD, how high should the bit rate be, to get a very good result, one that above it i would barely (if at all) notice a any difference ? I can go all the way to 9000kbps but that, I would think, would a bit over the top.
Is there a table specifying that if you have a DivX file that big and with that bit rate, this would be the "max" bit rate you should use.
Thanks.

Booooom:

This is a duplicate of your thread in the XviD forum. Entering the same question in two different forums is called "Cross-posting" and is a faux pas -- see Rule 8 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm).

I have moved your thread from the DivX forum, since it doesn't apply to DivX (or XviD), and have moved it to the CCE forum, since your first post leads me to believe you use CCE, and you are asking an MPEG-2 encoding question.

Ye i am sorry as i mistakenly posted a DivX question in a Xvid forum. i went on to correct my location but hadn't deleted my question in the Xvid forum. i am sorry.
That being said, the question is relevant for xvid as for divx (i am a somewhat of a newbie, so maybe it's not after all) and the question is relevant even if you are using Nero 6. It is true i am talking about MPEG2.
Sorry again

When you are encoding and authoring a DVD, Boooom, you are encoding in MPEG-2, not in DivX, nor in XviD. DivX or XviD may be used for decoding the video that is input to CCE only.

If this isn't the right place, Eyes or RB will move it to a DVD authoring forum.

Sure, you are right, sorry for not being clear. I have an AVI and i want to author it. Questiong being is there a rule of thumb for me to know how high should the bit rate be.
About not being the right forum, do i delete these messages and repost on the dvd forum?
Thanks.

Leave your thread here. As I stated above, the mods for the CCE forum will determine if this isn't the correct place.

You won't be able to delete your "other" thread, it, like this one, has replies.

I think something around 1500 kbps average is enought for a 704x480 picture with 1:2.35 aspect ratio encoded in a 4:3 frame with black bars.
But please take in account that your source is not very good (looks like a 1CD DivX) so don't expect it to look great. I've found out that DivX looks great in a small 15' monitor with little contrast and brightness, but when you put it in a 29' TV, it can get much uglier.
You might want to try my tool DIKO that does this conversions in a automated way, check my signature. :D

CCE has an advanced option box which allows you to view the q values (or whatever you want to call them) after encoding. They are a good objective indication about whether CCE can do anything better with a higher bitrate.

Also, consider enabling the antinoise filter, which is called "effect restricted vertical filter" in v2.67.

And I concur about the brightness, keep it low on the TV =)

Thanks.
Can you please explain the q values again. How do I view the q values after encoding?
