Hi, I am not sure where should I put this, in DivX encoding or TMPGEnc, anyway, the moderators should feel free to move this thread wherever they want.
I was tring to create an avi file from a DVD using TMPGEnc and the DivX encoder. Everything is ok, the only problem is that I don't get any sound in the final avi. I tried to set everything possible: PCM, MPEG layer-3, Windows Media Audio V1 & V2, etc. no audio at all.
Someone there?
Thanks.

Please help!

Hi castellanos,
In all honesty TMPGEnc is not the ideal encoder to use to generate Mpeg4 (DivX) files.
Are you 100% sure your encodes include an audio stream. Have you checked them with an file reader such as Gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/gspot221.exe).
Cheers

I mean, when you select in TMPGEnc save avi file, you can choose the encoder, and I choose the DivX one, after all, I am using the DivX encoder... right?
Anyway, you can choose the audio compression... I've tried every possibility, no audio at all.

can i ask you... why arent you using VirtualDub(Mod) to make your AVIs? TMPGEnc can do it, but IMO is not at all suited for this task. If youre not carefull with it, it will automatically resize the video, convert framerates and probably there are some other things that could go wrong.
If youre using TMPGEnc in this way, then VDub(Mod) should at least not be more difficult... probably easier.
(i hope this is not considered as a troll towards TMPGEnc, it's really good for making VCDs and stuff, but not for AVIs  )

Actually I think it is the same what you use, finally in TMPGEnc I choose the encoder (DivX) and the result, as far as I know, should be an avi from DivX encoder. The same with Xmpeg, FlaskMpeg or DVDx... right?
Anyway, with TMPGEnc after I click "File/Output to file/AVI file", I can choose the video encoder (DivX, XviD, 3ivD or whatever...) and the audio compresion (PCM, MPEG Layer 3, Windows Media Audio V1 & V2, and others...) whatever I choose, a get the avi, but without audio.

do you think or do you know? if you havent tried you dont know... if all programs dont output audio, there might be something wrong with your file. if only tmpgenc doesnt output audio, the problem probably lies there.

Well, it is a little suspect when I have to choose the audio compresion, because the audio encoders I see are kind of weird.
That is what I see in the audio possibilities:
ACELP.net
CCITT A-Law
CCITT u-Law
DSP Group TrueSpeech(TM)
GSM 6.10
IMA ADPCM
Microsoft ADPCM
Microsoft G.723.1
MPEG Layer-3
PCM
Windows Media Audio V1
Windows Media Audio V2
I don't think those are audio encoders... are they?
Is that may be the problem?
Grretings!

yep, they are all 100% audio encoders :)

The one you need is: MPEG Layer-3
The only other problem you might have is the maximum setting will be only 56kbps.
If you find this to be the case, you will need to add an new audio codec. I use one by Radium (v1.263).

I see... What about Lame?
If Lame also works, can you tell me how to install it? I've got the zip file with the Lame mp3 encoder, but the file where is written the instalation process, is missing.

Sure,
But do you know which version of Lame you have. I've not used it/installed it for quite a few months, so I don't know what the most up to date version is?
There's no point in installing an out of date 'test' version.

Hi, What I have is the last one: Lame 3.96.
There is a README file that speeks about an INSTALL file, but this last one is not there, so, I don't have any idea how to install it.

Well...now I got the Lame 3.97, but anyway I don't know how to install it.
Please help!

Doom9 reported the release of v3.96 on April 14, via his main site. Which then directs you to this site (http://mitiok.cjb.net/). But from what Doom9 said this version is supposed to be buggy (http://209.152.181.168/~hydrogen/?showtopic=19813&st=50&)!
With this in mind, it might be worth heading over to the 'Audio Encoding' section and asking some other forum members about v3.97, before installing!

castellanos,
In the meantime you could try what I use ie: RadiumMP3 (v1.263) (http://www.SeeMoreDigital.net/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/RadiumMP3_(v1.263).zip).

Sorry to bother you again. I've installed the Lame mp3 encoder successfully, now in the audio settings, I got much more posibilities... but: Still no audio!! :(
As I said before, and after getting the d2v and it wav file I select in TMPGEnc: File/Output to file/AVI file... I select both, audio and video and now with the Lame mp3 encoder there... the result it is an avi file without audio.
I looked in the properties of that avi file, there are no audio streams at all, that means, TMPGEnc didn't insert the audio at all.
Why?

Hi castellanos,
To be honest I don't know why. I have not used TMPGEnc for quite a while and never to generate Mpeg4 (DivX) encodes.
I'm afraid I will have to stand back from this one and let somebody else take over.
Good luck and cheers for now,

Thanks anyway! I am looking for answers in the "Audio Encoding" section, as far as I can see, to do what I want, I need the Lame ACM encoder... I installed it successfully, and the options are there as I told you, in TMPGEnc: File/Output to file/AVI file... I set the Kbps for the mp3, and after you select OK, it says "Lame Mp3..." so, it seems to recognize (some how) the mp3 encoder, but no audio comes out.
The same thing whit "River Past Audio Converter", I select (Similar than TMPGEnc) MPEG Layer-3 as the output, the River Past AC tries to encode, but no audio comes out from it.
So finally I would say that the Lame ACM is not working... or may be the problems are some others?
I tried your suggestion with RadiumMP3... it didn't work either! :(

I de-installed the Lame ACM encoder and installed the Radium Codec, now River Past Audio Converter works fine, at least shows that the mp3 codec works.
Pitty with TMPGEnc, still no audio... may be a program's bug?
Whatever, I know TMPGEnc was, is and will be not the best program for mpeg-4 encoding, still I wanted to try.
Pitty, it doesn't work.
Thanks.
