While I've encoded 100+ movies I always just made one setting and then adjusted it as need for each film. I always stayed with Xvid. Now I'm wanting to play with the .264 codec i've been inquiring about. So far I hear it can only be encoded useing ffdshow, I have also seen this used with xvid and such, however I have never done so. Could someone point to a guide on a step by step process of using ffdshow to encode?
Thanks

ffdshow shows up in virtualdub just like any other codec (the encoding part is actually 'just' ffvfw if I'm right). So just select ffdshow and press the configure button, select h264 as encoding method and configure the settings to your needs.
if your looking for detailed settings to go with h264, I'm kinda clueless... so in that case, sorry for an unnecessary post ;)

go to the configure window of ffdshow in virtualdub, select the decoding-tab and make sure h.264 decoding is enabled. you could also do it by going to VFW configuration in the ffdshow-directory of you start-menu. if you're opening it in a player, then make sure it is enabled in the ffdshow configuration.
uhm toiletduck why did you start a new thread? x264 discussion is already going on here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71396&perpage=20&pagenumber=3) and you already posted there...

I felt I was going to lead it off topic. That post is more about its development and peoples tests. It is going really good I didn't want to ruin it with a newbie post.

h.264 encoding testin is definitely not newbie material! so if that is ok for you i'd like to move it to the new codecs forum (or another forum you'd prefer for that matter)
