View Full Version : OMG! Why can't I ever learn...Interlaced/NTSC?

I'm doing a back-up of a NTSC(R1) dvd at the moment (I'm usually a PAL-guy).
After DIF4U (which flags them as Progressive), when I check the files manually for Interlace/Progressive I get 2 different results:

In dvd2avicli (Original vobs and M2V):
It says Progressive but there are clearly a lot of "combing", so I thought; no problem...it's interlaced then...happens a lot :)

In Media Player (M2V/AVS):
Thought I check them here as well, but here there are no combing lines what so ever.

So now I'm kind of confused...which one is telling me the truth?

Somebody please slap me, and get me back on track...

Im a pal user aswell, but it may be that in dvd2avi you never had force film selected...

When i was doing some testing with tears of the sun(r1) i noticed combing but then when i put force film on they dissapeared.

You may wanna wait for a ntsc user to reply though.. see what they have to say.

There's a lot of variables, so I'm not sure if this pertains, but...

After using pulldown, video will look interlaced when watched frame-by-frame because of the RFF flags added.

Sidenote: If you used Autodetect Video Type with my app and it proclaimed that the video was progressive, I'd go with that. There's very little chance that my diagnosis would ever get that wrong. I'd understand if you disputed a judgement of interlaced, but I honestly never get bug reports/submissions where anyone says that the diagnosis of progressive was incorrect when doing NTSC. PAL gives me problems, but NTSC I'm pretty sure of.

Thank you Master Yoda and Eyes`Only :)

I have Auto Detect NTSC on, and I also use Frame Diagnosis. I've been doing PAL for such a long time, that I don't trust anything any more... :D

Then I will just go with Progressive, as DIF4U suggested.
Thx for clearing this up!

Just wanted to let you know that it worked like a charm.
Hmm...maybe I should stick with these NTSC discs instead...:)
