optical cable, sound of backup stops

Hi,
I recently bought a Sony receiver and when I played a backup with the sound sent through an optical cable from my Philips DVD player, halfway the movie my amplifier displayed 'protected' and the sound turned off. Is there anything that I can do about this? Is there a program that can make backups that don't have this problem?

I problaby can't help with that, but it might be helpful to know whay program(s) you used to make the backups which have this problem.
