I have an AVI file that has AC3 5.1 surround sound. I don't have a computer 5.1 setup so I made it into a DVD for my home entertainment system. Everything such as the voices, sound effects, explosive sound effects are all very good and loud but the background music is too faint. My friend ripped it for me from a DVD so I'm not sure if the original DVD is like that but the background music is just too silent to be heard over the tremendous explosive sounds. Is there any way to make the volume of the background music increase without touching the voices and stuff?

I listened to the AC3 track on my computer using my 2 speakers and 1 bass, the background music can be heard. I had my AC3Filter's Output Speakers configuration set at "2/0 - Stereo." Then I changed it to "3/2+SW 5.1 channels" and it sounds pretty good! The background music is right on par and it can actually be heard over the explosion sounds. On my DVD player, the explosion covers almost all of the music. What is the problem? Please note that I have dealt with AC3 5.1 before and I have successfully added it to a DVD where the background music can be heard. But this one is being weird. Help anyone?

Do the AC3Filter settings have anything that will impact the output of the extracted AC3 from the AVI? :(

Possibly that your sound card has good driver that uses 3D algorithms to downmix 5.1 sources.
