I have an ATI 9800 Pro - All In Wonder Card and was looking to be able to stream its output to other computers on my home LAN, both the Audio and Video as I don’t want to have to buy a TV card for each of my PCs, and VNC isn’t up to doing this.

Has anybody else tried this???

Sorry about the cross posting.

Free MS Windows Media Encoder is able to do that, although don't expect great quality. There is also free Apple Darwing Streaming Server that streams QuickTime, but I used it only for streaming files (previously recorded) so I can't tell how it handles live broadcasts.

Also you'll need to get used to a certain delay that is inevitable with digital video streaming. Both the encoder and player need to buffer some data in order to compensate for VBR, network dropouts, etc.

Videolan (www.videolan.org) is also a solution, and then there's a brand new browser based mpeg-4 solution: http://www.cedelia.com/showroom

Since version 8.8 of MMC, ATI has included EasyShare. Your other cards must be ATI Radeons though.

From the ATI web site:

Multimedia Center 8.8 introduces EAZYSHARE™, the best way to share live TV and captured video and audio content with other computers on your home network. If you have one computer with an ALL-IN-WONDER® video card, you can enjoy all the exciting EAZYSHARE™ features with any computer on your home network that has an installed ‘Built By ATI’ RADEON™ or an ALL-IN-WONDER® video card.

Use EAZYSHARE™ to watch Live TV or enjoy local control (play, pause, rewind or fast forward) over any captured content on any computer on your home network with an installed ‘Built By ATI’ RADEON™ graphics card. Take control over your shared home entertainment experience with ATI’s REMOTE WONDER RF remote control and the simple, consistent Multimedia Center player interface.

there's also AIW (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69572). seems very promising to me, the author seems to be quick with the keyboard (in a good way), although i keep having problems with it. it needs some polish at the backend imho, but i would keep an eye on it.

vlc is definately an interesting solution.

i wonder if there's an open source java player that can do online clips, that would be great. i mean, a normal web server, that hosts a streamming format video (mkv/ogm/mp4) and a small applet that can playback it. that would be a cool solution imo, u just surf to the site, select the clip and bang, voila :)
