Yeah! It's a must have for P4-Prescot-Users. Incredible Speed- and Quality-Enhancement. And we all do need new Templates, except me, i don't use Win XP. ;)

TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress can be purchased as a standalone encoder or with extra features such as AC-3 audio plug-in, DVD Authoring or both together. Its minimum hardware requirements are a 1GHz processor, 256MB RAM, 1024x768 display, 100MB space and an Internet connection during usage for periodic license verification. Software requirements include Windows 2000/XP only, Windows Media Player 9 and DirectX 8 or higher.

There is no freeware edition of TMPGEnc 3.0 Express and an internet connection is now essential while using the product for it to periodically verify its license! Shame really. Would have liked to tested it before deciding to shell out some cash for it. :(

AC3 audio output and XDVD (eXtended DVD) support for higher DVD video compression and quality (may not be supported with certain DVD player models).

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm................

Download the 14 day trial version. It is the second item on the page when you go to the section for downloading the trial version. The first item is the licensed version.

Having tested it for a bit (first the jp version and now english) I must say that I really like it.

The only things I miss from previous versions is the ability to do manual ivtc, and it appears the mpeg tools have been gimped too... I can't find any merge/cut in it, but I believe they are working on making a new mpeg editor.

The native WMV9 encoder in tmpg3 is nice too, and if I didn't read it wrong, it can encode .wma 7.1 channel for the WMV's as well...

Batch processing have been improved... You can even set the number of projects you want to run in parallel (if you have more than one cpu I guess it could be useful.)

It can not open old tmpg project files (other than through VFAPI) and it appears it can no longer frameserve from tmpg either.
At least I could not find any vfapi handler for tmpg3.

Bummer I wont be able to use it, at work our IT Nazi's have our firewalls that spruced up that this type of software is not able to "call home".

It is also a pretty dangerous thing to do, what are Pegasus gunna do for there customers if they cop a DOS attack and have to shut down or re-address the relevant server like microsoft had to last year?

Also how long will they support a version in this way? I still use some software that is 7 or 8 years old coz it still does the job! I mean you purchase a licence to use software it should be good for life right?

The new Encoder is very good, but i don't want use such restrictive Software. So i will continue to use TMPGEnc 2.5x. Sorry Pegasys, but that's nonsense.

Hmmm... it would be interesting to see how much SSE3 optimisations help the Prescott here. This is pretty much one of the first apps to really make use of them isn't it? Any chance of some Prescott vs Northwood comparisons here?

.
Pegasys is smoking crack if they think thats going to last, I won't use it.
.
Hey pegasys what about those people who don't have an internet connection?
.
I use 1pc for the net and 1pc (not connected) for everything else.

Is it me, or is TMPGEnc 3.0 poor at frame rate conversion? Tried the new Incredibles .mov trailer (24fps) and converted to 25fps - the video 'pulses' - very tiny little pauses every few seconds. Its fine if I leave it at 24fps, but of course, this is not DVD complient. Also tried an XviD with similar results...

I'm trying it out. As has been noted, you can load pretty much any other format directly in for an encode as long as you already have the right codecs installed. Unfortunately, it's horribly, horribly slow-- much slower than 2.5 frameserving out of VDub. I still have merely an antique XP1700+, but I could always get about 0.5-0.7x speed encodes out of that rig using CBR. I encoded a 90-minute Xvid with Xpress last night and it took over ten hours to complete. But maybe I'm doing something wrong...?

"Xpress" is a joke, far too slow said 10 hrs to encode.
I'm sticking to v2.5 that said 4 hrs for the same encode.

Then you'r doing something wrong. 3.0 is definatly up to 10% faster than 2.5x.

Xpress is supposed to be for novice users!
I use 2.5 all the time without any problems.
so I stand by my previous post.
