Tried AutoGK ver 1.22 for the first time yesterday on Pulp Fiction. Don't know exactly what happened but since I left the PC alone during the encode but when I returned Win XP had restarted and from the time stamp on the .avi it seem that it happened during the second pass. I have the .avi from the first pass with subtitles but no sound. Nothing out of the ordinary was found in the log-file.
First time this happens. Haven't had any problems so far with earlier versions of AutoGK. Just for your information. Keep up the good work!

Typically, reboots during encoding signify hardware instability. That is because video encoding stresses the CPU of a workstation, producing lots and lots of heat.WinXP may or may not have created a "dump" for the crash, depending on operating system settings. But whether you have a diagnostic dump or not, it is likely that WinXP logged the type of crash in the System Log.
I don't have WinXP, but in W2K one selects Start....Settings....Control Panel....Administrative Tools.....Event Viewer. How can you tell if it's heat related? You can install motherboard monitoring tools that can show temperatures from all of the sensors on the board; usually there is one directly beneath the CPU.
You can run stress tests, such as Prime95, that produce lots of heat.
You can remove the cover and see if the problem dissipates along with the heat.Solutions include more robust CPU coolers, additional fans in the case, etc.

I've used earlier versions of AutoGK without any problems and encoded dozens of DVDs. I'll check the system logs however to see if there's anything there.

You may have had success in the past. Note that while the version of AGK has changed, the video encoding is done by VirtualDubMod 1.4.5.1, and that has not changed.
Re-run your encoding; if it crashes at a different point in the process, it is likely heat (or possibly, memory).
What crash was reported in your system log?
