View Full Version : Does anyone still use AVS 2.07/8
I would like to know whether offering support for avisynth 2.07/8 is still required in the big 3 apps.

there really isnt much reason to actively support it.

I still use 2.08. Is there some reason I should switch to 2.5?
I know 2.5 supports YV12 but CCE does not support it for input and the file has to be converted as a last step before sending to CCE. I assumed this converting before going to CCE would take away any speed advantage. I'm I missing something?

if you have any commands in your avs script, they would benefit a little from working in yv12..
why switch? well.. 2.07/.08 will slowly fail to be supported.. why? well.. avisynth is used by many groups of people.. dvdr archivers.. mpeg4 encoders.. tv capturers.. etc etc..
will using 2.5 help the mpeg2 group (the cce users anyways.. ).. not much.. but doesnt hurt at all. but at the same time, the same program helps divx/xvid (mpeg4) encoders because they can stay in yv12. the avisynth.org gods may fail to find good reasons to support to versions of the avisynth if the one of the 2 versions has no downsides for anyone that uses it, yet has many plus sides for many of the people that use it. and anyone writing applications/filters based on avisynth will begin to feel that way as well... (some already have)

Hmm...I have 2.08 I think. Didn't actually know there were a later version available.
I only use what's included in the DIF4U-package :D

Trahald you made some good points.
Ok, I made the switch and did a small test and noticed a very slight speed increase (humm...). My assumption was wrong I'm glad to say.
Does anyone know if there might be a future version of CCE that accepts YV12?
