Play DTS on 2.0 systems?

Is it possible to play dvd's with DTS stream on a 2.0 system or is it a pass-through only stream? I know that 5.1 will be converted to 2.0 in realtime if necessary but dts im not sure.
I'm trying to create a dvd with only one audio stream... and that should be the dts if possible...

Normally, the DTS can only be heard if you have a DTS decoder (in the player or in the amplifier). This is the case for most DVD players.

I have a Sony NS900 and this has the ability to send the DTS down the cable to the TV as 2 channel. However, it is rather quiet compared to converted Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.
