I had a look at the japanese trial version (english is supposed to be released in May) and quickly found that one of my favourite features of 2.5 and earlier is gone...
Inverse telecine (User setting) is replaced by a deinterlacer where you can set autoivtc and things that were there in 2.5 and earlier, but... You can no longer do manual ivtc with this version.
Another feature that is gone is the Force picture type setting. Probably not useful for most, but I don't see any reason to remove it.
On a positive note, most of the other things look nicer and better.
Quantizer matrix setting now have an additional feature where you can make changes to the matrix easier than before.
There are two sliders (multiply and add) that goes from 50-200 (percent) and -128 to 128 respectively, where the matrix is multiplied with the first value, then it is added with the second value.
You can still set the matrix manually like in earlier versions.
Templates are improved, and now have XDVD setting as well. Basically the same as normal DVD, but allows longer GOP. I didn't find any problem authoring using XDVD encodes, and the resulting dvd played fine.
There is also native (I think native) wmv9 encoding available in TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress for those who are interested.
An AC3 plugin is available for those who want native AC3 encoding in TMPG.
There are many other small improvements in this version, and there may be other small things that have gone missing, but I didn't notice any other than the two I mentioned.
I was unable to test if it can still do VFAPI frameserving, or import projects from older TMPG (you can load as video thanks to VFAPI though), because open/save of projects are disabled in the trial version.
I may post a real review when the english version is released, if I have the time to do one.
Until then I only hope that they will release another version of 3, with the missing features reinstated.
Hope anyone finds those small notes interesting.
