Hi folks

I am trying to open a wmv 9 video file in tmpgenc to convert to VCD and getting the "cannot open or unsupported". I had the same problem with wmv 8 but I solved it by setting the codec to "libavcodec" in ffdshow for wmv2/8 (disabled by default). But apparently there is no codec in ffdshow for wmv9.

I can watch the video in windows media player but not in any other player like bsplayer. I have installed windows media drivers 9.

I have renamed to asf as seen in other posts but it didn't work either. Besides, I cannot open the video in VirtualDub to demux, as it cannot open wmv files.

What should I do in order to open this file in tmpgenc?

Any help appreciated

In TMPG settings, give direct show or direct draw codec/plugin more priority. IIRC it set to -1 by default

I already dit that. Directshow filter has top priority and still I can't open the vid.

OK, I think I solved it.

I had already installed the wmv9 drivers but apparently something wasn't right.

I went to
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx and I installed the 822 KB download (WM9Codecs.exe), named as "Codecs Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1, Windows Media Player for Windows XP, and Windows Media Player 9 Series". I have WMP for WinXP, so I thought this would be sufficient.

The following note got me thinking that I might need something more:
"Note: If you do not have Windows Media Player 9 Series installed and are unable to play content by using the Windows Media Video 9 or Windows Media Audio 9 Voice codecs from a Player embedded in a Web page, consider downloading the codec installation package for Windows Media Player 6.4 as well."

So, from the same page I installed the 1,294 KB download (wmp6cdcs.exe) named as "Codecs Installation Package for Windows Media Player 6.4" and I chose to reinstall all components.

Now I can open the vid in other players like BSPlayer and in TMPGEnc.
