Hi ppl,

I have a DVB-C card and wanna compress my captured videos in xvid format. So i use Gordian knot to do it, but i dunno which aspect ratio to choose. Example: I have captured a "Dragon Ball Z" episode today, so it's 4/3 ratio, but in gordian knot, which setting should i use ? Pal 4/3 or 1:1 ?
I think 1:1 is the best parameter, but i wanna be sure, so...

Regards,

Kal

Hmm... Display AR = 1.333 should always give a AR of 4:3 !!!

Actually, 1:1 will work fine with input by AVI, since the input will have square pixels (e.g.: 640x480 for 4:3). Setting NTSC or PAL 4:3 won't change the output, but if you're doing any cropping, you'll get slightly different aspect ratio errors reported.

Now DVB I'm not so sure about; if it has square pixels, go ahead and use 1:1. Otherwise, you may want to set the DAR manually, as NTSC or PAL 4:3 are based on 720x480 or 720x576 DVDs, respectively.

I can say, almost completly sure of it, that DVB has 4:3 AR pixels, since the MPEG2 video coded in that kind if broadcast is ooptimized for TV-like devices.

Moved to DVB forum, which is probably more appropriate to Kal's needs.
